Stuart Beer
Stuart Beer has enjoyed a varied career. A music degree at Oxford lead to singing in London, teaching academic music firstly at Wells Cathedral School and then at Chetham’s School of Music, Director of Music at Manchester Cathedral and finally Director of Music at Benenden School. Now, returned to Wells in retirement, Stuart has more time for composition; he strives for music that fits the voice, puts the words centrally and embraces the good things of counterpoint, harmony and structure.
Esther Bersweden
Esther Bersweden is a Bristol-based musician, currently studying for a Music MA specialising in Composition at the University of Bristol. She particularly loves writing choral music and has recently had commissions from the City of Bristol Choir and the choir at St Mary’s, Wimbledon. Esther has been involved in the musical life of St Paul’s, Clifton for the last four years, where she held the organ scholarship as an undergraduate, and during which time she discovered a love of conducting.
Alexander Campkin
Alexander Campkin studied at Oxford University, the Royal Academy of Music and Vienna. His music, described as ‘fresh and attractive’ by Gramophone magazine, has been performed at the Berlin Philharmonie, Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Tokyo Opera City Hall. He was commissioned by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to compose a piece for the 2018 BBC Proms. Other commissioners of his work include the Royal Opera House, Tallis Scholars, London Mozart Players and the Vokalkapelle der Theatinerkirche Munich.
Ian Carpenter
Ian Carpenter leads a busy double life as an engineer and a composer, having studied engineering at the University of Durham and composition at the University of Bristol. He sings with the Bristol-based chamber choir Exultate Singers and composes mainly choral, vocal and piano works. His anthems In paradisum and Set me as a seal are published by Boosey & Hawkes and he has recently completed Nowell Sing We, a book of 40 SATB a cappella Christmas carol arrangements.
