There’s a wideness in God’s mercy For the love of God is broader

like the wideness of the sea; than the measure of our mind,

there’s a kindness in his justice
and the heart of the eternal

which is more than liberty.
is most wonderfully kind.

There is no place where earth’s sorrows
But we make his love too narrow

are more felt than up in heaven; by false limits of our own;

there is no place where earth’s failings and we magnify his strictness

have such kindly judgement given.
with a zeal he would not own.
