emphasis? Are there particular notes in the melody which feel as if they want to be brought out more than the others? Decide these together with your singers and mark them into the score.All this will help them with their breath management and will produce a more sensitive and mature performance of the song.
Using the voice well
The long phrases of this song demand good breath control. If your singers find that they cannot sustain whole phrases, ask them to ‘stagger’ their breathing by taking a breath at a different place from their neighbour so that the overall sound is continuous.
The melody includes several wide leaps. Encourage your singers to maintain a legato sound even when the melody moves by leap rather than step. It is helpful to isolate these moments and rehearse them slowly several times until they feel natural and comfortable for the singers.
