USING THE BOOK
God’s Church for God’s World provides a number of options for performance. When selecting hymns, you can choose between traditional hymnody, worship songs, or contemporary hymns and songs from around the world (designed to be of particular use to those hosting Lambeth Conference participants). In many instances, a mixture of old and new music may be appropriate. By giving hymn alternatives to some of the anthems, it is also possible to use this service as the basis for a hymn festival.
We have provided choral items suitable for both full SATB choirs and those with more limited resources. The first anthem in a group of three is the easiest, while the last the most difficult.
The service is through-composed. At the end of each musical option is a guide indicating where you should pick up the service, missing out the musical items you won’t be using.
The book also provides resources so that it may be adapted for use at choral evensong. Guidance for using the book under those circumstances can be found on page x.
Whether you are putting on a small local service or an area festival for hundreds, God’s Church for God’s World provides invaluable resources for churches of all sizes.
Some RSCM Area Festivals feature music that Voice for Life award winners can sing. We have provided a number of opportunities for this:
John Harper: In the city of the Lord, bars 57–65
Basil Harwood: Magnificat, bars 44–55
Samuel Sebastian Wesley: Blessed be the God and Father, bars 44–106 Edward Bairstow: Blessed City, heavenly Salem, bars 34–53
Additionally, a verse of a hymn could be sung by award winners alone.
A congregational service leaflet can be found on the RSCM website: www.rscmshop.com/S0181.html
Please note that words of the hymns in copyright require a CCLI licence to reproduce in a service leaflet.
