48 God’s Church for God’s World
¶ LISTENING
The Church is called to proclaim Christ to the World but she is often deaf to him and fails to encourage recognition of him in human society. If the Church were truly to hone her spiritual ‘sixth sense’ perhaps she would both hear the yearning for God’s agenda in the political life of the world and find a renewed voice in the ordering of society.
Reading: 1 Peter 2.13-17
For the Lord’s sake accept the authority of every human institution, whether of the emperor as supreme, or of governors, as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing right you should silence the ignorance of the foolish. As servants of God, live as free people, yet do not use your freedom as a pretext for evil. Honour everyone. Love the family of believers. Fear God. Honour the emperor.

If the knowledge of these poor people was so limited about their ruler I who am infinitely lesser in respect to God than they to their ruler need not be surprised if I do not realize the presence of God – the King of Kings.
Nevertheless, I do feel, as the poor villagers felt about Mysore, that there is orderliness in the universe, there is an unalterable law governing everything and every being that exists or lives. It is not a blind law, for no blind law can govern the conduct of living beings and thanks to the marvellous researches of Sir J. C. Bose it can now be proved that even
