PIERS MAXIM
Piers Maxim was a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, London. Following a degree in Music at Cambridge University, he continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music, London.
Composing music since he was seven years old, he had songs, carols and piano works published while still at school. Composition highlights over the years include commissions for a National Children’s Home celebration in Winchester Cathedral (The Land of Lost Content), and for the Millennium Eve Service of Celebration in Southwark Cathedral, in the presence
of HM Queen Elizabeth II (And I Said to the Man). Recent compositions include the large-scale choral-symphonic works Song of the Silent Land (Maine, USA) and The Musket Ball (Greenwich, UK).
As conductor and chorus master for nearly twenty years, Piers regularly worked in many of the major opera houses and festivals in Europe. During this time, he was Chorus Master at Scottish Opera and at La Monnaie, Brussels, and conducted in Edinburgh, Cape Town, Beijing and New York.
As conductor of choirs and choruses in England, he has conducted most of the choral and choral-symphonic repertoire, and frequently leads choral workshops.
Piers is currently Director of Music and Organist at Great Malvern Priory, and Music Director of Elgar Chorale of Worcester.
