Joanna Forbes L’Estrange (b.1971) is an English soprano, composer and choral leader who receives engagements throughout the world.
A Master of Arts graduate in Music of Oxford University, she has composed songs (including for The King’s Singers, The Military Wives Choirs and SingUp), sacred anthems, Christmas carols, television production music and arrangements for The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, The Swingle Singers and Faber’s Choral Basics series. She regularly collaborates with her husband Alexander L’Estrange, writing original songs for his popular series of community choral works. A
former member and musical director of The Swingle Singers, she specialises in the performance of contemporary music and jazz; recordings include works by Steve Reich and Luciano Berio, CDs with the award winning chamber choir Tenebrae, solo jazz and a cappella albums and hundreds
of soundtracks for Hollywood films. She directs choirs, presents choral workshops and has appeared on television as an adjudicator for a cappella competitions.
